About PickAFig
PickAFig is a web application that allows you to submit an article that will be reviewed by
all and will be promoted, based on popularity, to the main page. When a user submits a news
article it will be placed in the "unpublished" area until it gains sufficient votes to be
promoted to the main page. The original source for PickAFig was authored by
Ricardo Galli. He was influenced by the extremely popular English technology site
digg.com. The concept was then adapted for the Catholic community by Paul Nowak of R.A.G.E. Media.
Why the name PickAFig?
PickAFig refers to several different Scriptural passages:
-"You will know them by their fruits" Matthew 7:16,Luke 6:44, James 3:12
-The cursing of the fig tree for producing no fruit. Matthew 11:13-14
PickAFig helps Catholics refer one another to the "Good Fruits" of the Internet's offerings. by "picking good fruit" for others to see you can help them pass over the bad fruit.
Why isn't my story "Published" or on the front page?
Each story submitted to PickAFig must have a minimum number of votes to be automatically moved to "Published" status. Be sure to browse the "Upcoming News" section to vote for your favorite links so that even more people can find them!
Can I add a button to my blog/website so readers can vote for my content?
Is there something I can put in my web browser or toolbar to make "Picking" easier?
There is a bookmarklet available for the major web browsing software including Internet Exporer and Firefox. To access, login to your PickAFig account and go to your user profile. At the bottom of the page you will get the code and instructions for setting up your bookmarklet for easy submission of whatever page you are currently viewing in your web browser!
